Stargate the film introduced me to Dr Daniel Jackson, geek, archaeologist, linguist
and all round good guy. I was hooked. After a couple of misses, Emancipation
anyone? I found Stargate SG-1, fell in love with Dr Daniel Jackson again,
discovered Jack, Sam and Teal'c, and my
Stargate journey began.
Five wonderful seasons later I thought my journey had finished, mainly because
the character I love the most, Daniel, ascended. He returned full time
for Season 7 after three guest appearances in Season 6 and, as an unapologetic
Daniel Jackson fan, I can't tell you how happy that made me.
Season 9 was a big change for SG-1, while Daniel, Sam and Te al'c remained at the SGC,
Jack left to be head of Homeworld Security. While I miss the Jack of the earlier
seasons, his actor's lack of enthusiasm for the show has been obvious for some
time now. We had a new leader, Cameron Mitchell, a new
enemy the Ori, a wonderful reoccurring character in Vala, and renewed
enthusiasm from all. Unfortunately, season10 was the last season, for
which I am deeply disappointed, but then all good things come to an end I
suppose and we do have the films to look forward to. This show has been part of
my life for nearly ten years and I am SO going to miss it, although I have the
DVDs to enjoy.
The stories below are written with adults in mind, and all, but one contain
slash.
If that is not your cup of tea, read the first story and make a quick exit!
Despite the lack of new stories, I can't believe the last one was written in
2003, I am still involved in the Stargate fandom and still writing - very, very,
slowly. (Sept.07)
Genre: Humour, or at least I hope so. 43K
Stuck in a downpour, Jack and Daniel compete to describe their kinkiest
dates. Sam and Teal'c listen, amused. April 01
I belonged to a group called SGbadfic, set up to provide a
place for posting stories and getting constructive criticism, comments and
feedback. The aim was to improve your writing. It was a good idea, and I found
it helpful until I struck lucky and found two wonderful betas. During that time
I wrote this little snippet taking the words 'write what you know about' as my
maxim. I have reviewed it since then as the punctuation made me shudder as was
noted in this
Review by Lex.
Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Drama, J/D preslash. Warning for violence,
non-con. 172K
Daniel is captured by his worst enemy. February 01
This story was my first for SG-1. It ended up in the zine,
Genesis. This is the original version, British spelling and all. I'm not too
sure what I feel about it, nor why I wanted to write it. This is NOT my usual
J/D. In fact there is no overt J/D at all. Just a promise. This is Daniel whumping extraordinaire. A genre I am not very good at because normally I hate
Daniel, or Jack, Sam and Teal'c to be hurt. Certainly not my best.
Genre: AU, Action/Adventure, Slash J/D First Time.
199K
SG-1 stumble into an alternative reality, apparently due to a malfunctioning
Stargate. October 01
Not my best, but readable. I still hadn't found my trusty
betas, and I think it shows. I had fun writing it, but it could have been a
great deal better, and the switching point of views is a little wearing. Also on
rereading it I realise that I appeared to have had something of a comma frenzy at
the time!
Genre: Drama, Slash J/D Established relationship. D/OMC. 187K (Please
note, the D/OMC relationship is of slave and master, and implies non or at least coerced
consent by its very nature. This is, however, implied and not depicted within this story)
This is the hoary old chestnut, Daniel in slavery. March 02
By now, I had my trust betas, Sarah and David, and with them
on board I felt a lot more confident. I did a bit of a rewrite after some
comments by both of them, and felt pretty happy when I posted the final story. It is
the fan fiction cliché, but I made it a little different, or so I hoped. I was
also very happy with the title, but only David commented on it :-( Click
here to see the picture that inspired the story.
Genre: Action/Adventure, Slash J/D First time. Some violent imagery.

Jack picks up an unwanted hitchhiker, but despite the complications and the
fear, somehow manages to open up to Daniel. April 02
Yes, I borrowed the title, but not the story, from Alan Dean
Foster's book. This just flowed, and remained in Jack's POV all the way through.
I'm pretty happy with this one. Sarah and David did their stuff and quercus, the
Americaniser, made sure there were no overt Briticisms hanging around.
Genre: Drama, Slash J/D First time. 172K
Daniel's sense of isolation leads him into danger. July 02
We were singing Walter de la Mare's The Prince of Sleep. It
starts; 'I met at eve the Prince of Sleep, his was a still, sad, lovely face. He
wandered through a valley steep. Lovely. In a lonely place.' The imagery caught
me, and I found myself thinking of a plot for a new J/D story. Someone giving
feedback likened it to the story of Tam Lin, and thinking about it, it certainly
has echoes in that classic fairy tale. I like this one. Thanks go again to the
wonderful Sarah for the beta, and quercus, the Americaniser, for eliminating any
lurking Briticisms.
Genre: Drama, Slash J/D First time. 157K
SG-1 encounter a race who hold somewhat different views and values to their
own. October 02
I'm not too sure where this came from, but I felt that I
wanted to write about the sea, so write I did. As usual I wanted a J/D romance,
some team involvement, and Daniel having to use his skills in a tricky
situation. I'm fairly happy with the result. Sarah as usual did her stuff, and
quercus checked for any lurking Briticisms. So you Americans don't 'take the
piss' then? I checked my Brewers dictionary of Phrase and Fable, and found that
'to take the mickey out of someone' means to tease them, and that mickey
probably represents Mickey Bliss, Cockney rhyming slang for 'piss'. Taking
the piss alludes to the deflating of a person, as a bladder deflates when
emptying. So there you have it! Aren't words fascinating. And following that,
Aqua regia in Latin means royal water.
Genre: Drama, Slash J/D First time. 196K
SG-1 find that some things are beyond price. March 03
This is another one that wrote itself. The plot ran away with
me, and the story got longer and more complex as I struggled to keep in the
elements that had initially intrigued me. It is as usual a J/D focused story,
but Sam and Teal'c get to strut their stuff, Sam most energetically and enthusiastically. Selenay stepped in, to save a hectically busy Sarah from shorting
out due to overload, to do my main beta which was greatly appreciated. I asked
Sarah to look it over just to give it the thumbs up, and she returned it with
the comment that she "found it impossible to resist betaing it in my usual
anally retentive way" adding corrections and suggestions for which I
am, as ever, totally appreciative of. (She is SO good as a beta). David looked
it over and made his usual intelligent comments and critique, and quercus
did her usual great Americanisation, and I dedicate this story to her as a Happy
Birthday present with thanks for all the help, inspiration and guidance she
has given me over the last few years.
Genre: Action/Adventure, Drama, Slash J/D First time. 324K (in
two parts)
SG-1 find themselves victims of a cruel and devious mind. July
03
This first half of this story was written nearly two years
ago. I did write a second half, but my beta at the time chewed it apart and spat
it back and, in retrospect, I'm glad she did. :-) I sat on the first half for
over a year before sending it out to Sarah and David for comments and was very
pleased at the positive ones I received. It was
just two months ago that I finally saw my way forward. It is, as usual, a
SG-1 team story with special emphasis on Jack and Daniel. I borrowed the title
from Iain M Banks, a SF writer I cannot recommend too highly, and no, his book
is nothing like this story. I must also thank him, and other writers, for the
inspiration for the Relaxors. My thanks go to the usual suspects. Sarah for her
incisive and ever useful beta, David for his usual great criticism, but not for
asking me whether I'd ever considered writing a short story (they start out
short, David):-P, and Selenay, reading it totally fresh, who reassured me that
she had enjoyed it, had not got bored and yes it did make sense. Last, but
most certainly not least, thanks to my great Americaniser, quercus, I really appreciate
all of you guys.
