Harry Potter is a teenager's universe, but a somewhat dark one
and with some well characterised adults
to add to the mix,
which is probably why
it has such an extensive adult following. The books centre on Harry, and his
friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger and their allies such as Albus
Dumbledore, Rubeu s Hagrid and Minevera McGonagall, but have some
wonderfully ambivalent characters like Severus Snape (as the kind of teacher you
hope never, ever to encounter) and some downright evil
characters such as Death Eater Lucius Malfoy and, of course, Voldemort, the dark lord. It is
essentially a story about good and evil with young Harry as the reluctant hero
and Voldemort as the repulsive and powerful villain. The setting is both muggle
and magical Britain, Hogwarts is in Scotland possibly near Aberdeen, Diagon
Alley and the Ministry of Magic are based in London, while Harry lives at 4
Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey (South England) with his Aunt Petunia and Uncle
Vernon and piggish cousin, Dudley. The Dursley's are almost a
comic book creation of spite and malice, and the surprise is not that Harry is
so resourceful and independent after such a neglected and abusive up bringing,
but that Harry manages to remain so normal.
Most of the recommendations below are
slash Harry/Draco - I have a fondness for
enemies colliding and eventually coming together, with some gen and het (mostly
Ron/Hermione alongside H/D). While I am not naive
enough to believe that young teens do not indulge in sex before the magical age
of 16/17 - hey, I was a teenager - I really don't wish to read about it, so all
of my recs take place when Harry et al are at least 16 (age of consent in the UK),
but most recs are Post Hogwarts, that is with the characters as
adults particularly now the last book has been published.

- Irresistible Poison by
Rhysenn. Under the influence of a love
potion, Draco learns that poison doesn't always bring death -- there are
other ways to suffer and live. Chemical emotion runs feverish as Harry and
Draco discover the intoxication of love. Harry and Draco are
in their last year at Hogwarts, still enemies until Draco makes a terrible
mistake and ends up taking a love potion that affects his feeling towards
Harry. Harry's distrust and dislike of Draco are tested as he comes to
understand the agony Draco is going through and, with the reluctant help of
Hermione, tries to help Draco counteract the spell. This long, intricate
story touches on love, loyalty, compassion, hatred, betrayal and friendship
and is an excellent read.
- Transfigurations
by Resonant. Five years after
Voldemort's defeat, Harry returns to England to help re-open Hogwarts. This
is a long, well plotted story full of magic, curses, angst, history the
works. Harry fled to America after the battle and can't remember what
actually happened. He hasn't kept in contact with his friends and finds
things have changed considerable, as have certain people, Draco Malfoy for
one. Draco may have turned his back on his father and helped them, but Harry
can't forgive and forget, can he? Even if they do have to work together to
protect Hogwarts from the lingering evil. Nicely written Harry, and a still
very cool Draco.
-
Dancing
Queen by Maya. This is just silly, but also a fun read.
- Seamus
is Seamus and You are Yourself by Ari Munami is
funny, somewhat silly and highly improbable - Harry returns to school at the
beginning of the sixth year with 'it' in spades . Written in varying points of view,
this has
the most wonderful description of a an obsessed, baffled, infuriated and protective Draco. I
still snigger at this thought from Draco in regards to his musings about
wanting to get to know Harry "I don't just want to fuck Potter. I
want to *know* him. Jesus. You know how hard that is for me to admit to? I'm
not meant to feel like this, I wasn't built this way. But every time I get
close to him the fucking tiniest violin in the world starts playing its
little melody just for me. The birds start singing. It's a wonderful fucking
day."
- Only your
shadow
by PhoenixSong (gen). Draco discovers that it's easy to hate someone
from a distance. When you talk to a person up close things can look very,
very different. A very angsty story from Draco's point of view. Very well
written with a hurting Harry into the bargain.
- Lustre
by Calico and Julad. Draco's is
extremely proud of the wonderful gift his father has sent him for his 16th
birthday, but slowly he comes to realise that there is far more to the gift
than meets the eye and he needs someone to explain just what is going on and
what exactly his father intends. He needs someone who can speak Parseltongue.
He needs Harry Potter. A very in character Draco and a strong assertive
Harry.
- Naked
Quidditch
by Anya (gennish, ok, mild sexual innuendos of all kinds). A hilarious tale of the result of the Weasley twins
losing a bet. The story is told via e-mails and is howlingly funny at times.
The ending falls a little flat, but the whole story left me grinning.
-
Beautiful_World by
Cinnamon. Draco is afraid of living and Harry is afraid of dying,
but sometimes the choice isn't offered. Draco's got to learn what it is to
really live, while showing Harry how beautiful the world really is when
you're not too scared to see it. Harry learns something about
himself, something that changes the way he views the world and his life. He
also starts up a strange friendship with someone totally unexpected, Draco
Malfoy. It is Draco who sustains him and supports him during the worst
moments of his life. This is a very moving story that develops the Harry/Draco
relationship gently and beautifully. I have a few problems with it,
Dumbledore's and Sirius' action in telling Harry his fate in such a manner
and being so unsympathetic with his reaction towards it for a start, but nethertheless, this story will remain with me, and I guarantee the ending
will make you cry.
- Left My
Heart by Emma Grant. Post-Hogwarts. Auror Draco Malfoy
has disappeared, and Harry Potter has been sent to find him. This is about
Harry and Draco meeting as adults in Los Angeles. I was very amused and
impressed by the wonderful detail Emma provides us for international flight
via portkeys and I liked the whole feel of the story. Most enjoyable with a
great Hermione.
Surrender the Grey

-
Somnio Salvus by
Invisibabe. Year Six at Hogwarts, and
Draco finds a way to spy on Harry's deepest fears. But will he use this
knowledge to gain power over Harry, or to change his own destiny This
story has many features that are typical of H/D, but I liked the way Lucius
was portrayed as a loving father rather than the hateful disciplinary of so
much fiction. The idea of Draco invading Harry's dreams to cause harm, but
being shocked at what he discovers and how that alters his whole outlook on
life was nicely done.
-
Objects of Desire by
Azrael .The dream team sign a
magical contract promising to lose their virginities within the year, they
soon fix on the objects of their desires, but will the bitterness left in
the wake of the war prove too hurtful for love to exist? HG/SS, HP/DM. This
is a superbly written and very long story. Azreal has imagination, flair and
a deft touch. Her 'heroes' are young adults matured by the ferocity of the
war and struggling to make sense of adulthood. I even bought her Snape/Hermione,
a pairing I've never considered and never wanted to read (I have this
problem with the age difference, but the Hermione portrayed certainly knows
what she wants). I have to admit to
skimming some of the SS/HG stuff, particularly the sex, but I liked
her kick arse Hermione. Ron's story made me cry, while Harry and Draco are
fascinating in their love and insecurity. Also Azreal has written a devious,
arrogant, evil, selfish Lucius who happens to love his son above everything,
and that plot thread is absorbing.
- A
Thousand Beautiful Things by Duinn Fionn. Draco Malfoy
struggles with changed fortunes, shifting alliances, an ugly war, and an
unusual spell, with the help of a concerned professor, an insightful
house-elf, and an unexpected Gryffindor friend. This is very
Dracocentric, and despite longing for more Harry in this post Hogwarts tale,
I found the story fascinating and different. I loved the other characters
Duinn creates, and I enjoyed Draco's friendship with Dean, who has become a
celebrated painter. So, despite far too little Harry for far too much of it, this is
worth reading. There is a sequel entitled
Delicate Sound of
Thunder.
-
Legacy of Slytherin Series by
Angie Astravic (gen) is a sequence of stories that is rather like reading a HP novel. Harry
obviously features heavily, but the rest of the characters get their
opportunity to shine and a few of the stories, while related to Harry, do
not actually involve him. A couple of moments I laughed out loud,
particularly at this snippet of dialogue; 'Yes, they're a bit like buses,
Dark Lords,' said the Serpent. 'You wait and you wait, for a thousand years
-- then three of them come along, one right after the other.' To
read the series check out the order

Invisible to see by
FayJay is a long, involved story that
begins with Draco's realisation that whatever he thought in the past,
becoming a Death Eater is the last thing he ever wants to be. So he flees
from home back to Hogwarts and sanctuary, but also to suspicion, hatred and
trouble. He begins to learn things about himself he never suspected courtesy
of Hufflepuff Justin Finch Fletchley, surprises himself by accepting the
friendship of Neville Longbottom and tries hard to sort out his feelings for
the smug, infuriating and attractive Harry Potter.
-
The
watchman by madmadharri is a HP/Darkness is Rising
crossover. It is short, sparse and seen entirely through Ron's eyes as Harry
tries to come to terms with his part in the war. A stranger called Will
Stanton calls for Harry, and slowly makes him come alive again, much to
Ron's gratitude and (misplaced) jealousy.
-
Tomorrow,
and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by November Snowflake.

intriguing and well written story that manages to be sad, angsty,
angry and fascinating. Or go

- Eclipse by
Mijan. Power, Prestige, and Sweet Revenge.
What's it like when you finally have everything you've ever wanted, right at
your fingertips, and your entire world turns upside down? Draco Malfoy is
about to find out, and the answer will take him through hell and back. An excellent, beautifully written story that takes time to show the changes
in Draco that make Harry's willingness to trust and eventually befriend him
totally believable. Harry and Draco both suffer considerable hardship as
they struggle together to return to Hogwarts. (note, Mijan is also
called PheonixSong). Here is
Eclipse:
Interlude . The interlude takes place between chapters 8 and 9
of "Eclipse", specifically just after Draco sends Biddy to Hogwarts.
-
Something
Impossible by Cassandra Claire. Draoc's twisted, paranoid
and highly egotistical view of the world is absolutely hilarious, and this
line sums of the whole mood of the piece - It was even better than
kissing his own reflection in the mirror, which Draco knew because he had
tried it on several occasions - snigger! Mind you, I thought at first
that Harry and his backbone had parted company, but, thankfully, it grew
back very quickly.
-
Snakes And Lions by
GatewayGirl When Ron and Hermione get together, they notice only each other. A
nightmare prompts Harry to return alone to the empty Chamber of Secrets, and
leads to a new look at an old enemy. This is a long, 43 chapters,
superbly written and plotted tale of a surprising friendship which develops
and grows despite all obstacles put in its way. The Harry and Draco depicted
here feel so very possible and very much in character, and I loved her
Hermione. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the promised sequel.
- Commencement
by Aja is a post war, leaving Hogwarts
'romantic' tale. Beautifully written and the set up between Harry and Draco
is so well depicted I could both feel and believe it.
- Dahlia's Silver Chain Trilogy consists of
The Silver Chain,
Power Play
and The
Ebony Box the writing is good, the characterisation
excellent , no sanitised Draco here, and the sex undeniable hot. The other
characters, especially Ron and Herminie are very well written as well.
- Moving
Company by Lady Lance, When Harry becomes Slytherin,
everything changes. Old relationships end, new bonds are formed. This is
one of the best 'Harry gets resorted' stories I've read. It takes a slow look at
Harry's reactions to the move as well as those of the people around him.
- A Scrap of
Humanity and its sequel The
Metamorphosis of Narcissus by HF are superbly written
stories about Harry, Draco and Ron a number of years Post Hogwarts and two
years after the end of the war. In the first Draco is called out of exile to
assist the Ministry and in so doing makes contact with both Ron and Harry.
In the second, Ron helps Harry to keep in contact with Draco despite the
risks, but all three fall foul of a vengeful Fudge.
-
Ruses by Empress of the Eclipse.
After his father
challenges him, Draco ends up inviting Harry to his house for the summer.
But what SHOULD have been a fairly harmless visit goes horribly wrong.
A very different take on how Harry and Draco might become friends and
then lovers with some fascinating twists, a somewhat out of control Harry
and a cover up between the boys that almost destroys them.
-
Doppelganger by
Vichan. Harry sees himself in a mirror with a green towel. Draco
is nice to him one second, and his typical self the next. What does it all
mean? A Slytherin Harry and his
'mate' Draco Lucius fall into Harry's world and turn it upside down. For
this Harry has defeated Voldemort, this Harry is very much in love with his
Draco, and Draco Lucius is all together easier and more likable than the
Draco Malfoy of his universe. Linked to author's page as each chapter is not
linked together. A WIP. Or available
here or

-
When,
Not Yet,
Hold On,
Now
by zionsstarfish is an interesting study of Draco's insecurities,
pride, hopes and fears in a future where he and Harry are friendly, sort of.
- And We Are At Our Apogee
by Nicole. Harry doesn't
remember. Draco wanted revenge, but it didn't work out that way. A
beautifully written, almost dreamy piece from Draco's pov. Harry slowly
remembers, and Draco waits, watches and fears.
- Tissue of
Silver by Fearless Diva, Draco Malfoy's life is
threatened and Auror Harry Potter is sent to protect him. Draco is presented
as a spy for the order, also he is a reformed, if not particularly liked or
trusted, Death Eater. His confidant is Snape, who is the only one to know
that Draco has the hots for Harry Potter, but first, he has to survive, and
make friends with Potter.
-
Gold Tinted Spectacles by
Beren or (here)
Harry's sixth year has
come and gone, part of him has been alone because of everything he knows and
everything he has seen. As his seventh year dawns he's looking for something
and he's not sure what but he knows it's out there. Things start to look
interesting when Draco Malfoy becomes involved. A long, involved and
enjoyable love
story with a strong plot and well constructed history.
- Corruption
by
Beren
and the sequels Distortion and Alteration revolve around the premise that
Voldemort has captured Harry and
for his own twisted reasons has chosen not to kill him outright. Revenge in
the Dark Lord's mind requires a fate worse than death and Harry is about to
find out what that is. Beren takes us on a different path with a much
changed Harry who, despite all that has been done to him, retains enough of
his humanity to save Draco and to feel grief and despair at what he has done
and what he has become. Carvedwood has written an authorised
companion piece
Draco's Story:
Corruption and it is both well written and similar in style to
Beren's original story.
-
A Slytherin In Gryffindor Clothing
by maheliem Draco
hits his head and wakes to find himself in another world where he's a
Gryffindor and Harry Potter is a Slytherin. This is both an
interesting and fun story. Draco finds himself in Hogwarts that's not his,
although only he appears have been changed. The Harry Potter here is not a
hero, and doesn't have a lightening scar on his forehead. Plus he's a
Slytherin, but Draco slowly finds out that he is still the same Harry when
given the chance to be heroic, Funnily enough, Draco finds out that he has
the potential to be heroic also.
- Happiness involving a tea house by
Nope. Harry just
happens to be sitting in a tea house sipping camomile tea when in walks
Draco Malfoy. The waitress listens with interest to the ensuing
conversation.
-
How
to cope when your best friend is in love (with a Slytherin) by
Annie is a funny piece of narrative and observation from Ron's pov.
- Phoenix
Song by xylodemon Certain situations force Draco to
reevaluate his alliances. He turns to his former enemies, and finds love in
an unexpected place. A very long and rewarding read with some great
characterisations not only of Harry and Draco, of Ron, Hermione, Lupin and
many other. I was particularly fond of Ginny while Snape was wonderfully
nasty, vile and malicious yet still able to show his real concern for Draco.
- View Askew
by Brenda Antrim. Voldemort opens up an unusual channel of
communication between Harry and Draco. Draco doesn't react well. Written
from Draco's POV and very much as a third person narrative, this story has
some very amusing asides, as well as some pretty scary visions.
-
It's all about the subterfuge by Abra Draco
likes boys. So does Harry. A very unromantic and amusing look at a
potential Harry/Draco relationship where they still hate each other, but
find the other sexy!
-
Breakfast in bed
by Anjali Since they had started
sleeping together, they'd had exactly nine Deep Conversations, all involving
Them and where They were going, but Harry always blushed and sidled around
certain issues... Anj calls this smutty, smutty fluff, I thought it was
delightful.
- Unthinkable Thoughts
by Aidan Lynch. Harry and Draco slowly overcome their
enmity as forces beyond their control played with their emotions and push
them together. The author takes his time building up to their
acknowledgement of their emotions, and creates considerable angst,
particularly for Harry, while doing so. The story makes great use of
Hermione, Ron and the rest of Harry's Gryffindor friends and is very well
written, detailed and romantic.
-
Blue Vase by
Ivy Blossom. When Harry seems to forget
who he is, Draco seizes the opportunity to change history . A gentle
tale from Draco's perspective of his observations and thoughts on Harry post

-
Angels and Devils
by Beren. Harry defeated Voldemort: his act of heroism is
famous throughout the wizarding world. He's trying to finish his final year
at Hogwarts in peace, but something peculiar is happening to him, something
he never would have expected. It's all rather embarrassing and making his
life very complicated. Draco as Veela fics are
something of a cliché in this fandom. Some are very badly written, a few are
fun and one or two like this one are clever and original.
-
A

Draco as Veela story, but this one is a very funny parody of the whole genre.
-
Just Another Recollection by
Nepenthe Draco's
short-term memory is destroyed from Harry's duelling spell, causing him to
wake up every morning like it's just the next day. When, in fact, it has
been three years. We come in on the morning that Draco wakes up early and
finds a Mister Harry Potter in his bed... A bittersweet tale of love,
memory and friendship.
-
Dream Verse
by Really Sunny It began innocently
enough is the start of this long involved series. Harry decide that he
needs to understand Draco and spends his time researching everything about
him. Slowly, he learns and much of what he learns frightens him, he also
begins to fall in love. Meanwhile, Draco is not as oblivious as Harry
thinks. Once you have finished, it is worth reading the Q & As just to
see how well plotted the series was.
- Not Just
Another, "Oh no, Draco's a Veela story by Relle is a
funny parody of Frizzy's somewhat sweet and simpering
Magnetic
Attraction a story that has both its fans and detractors.
- Tempus Fugit
by Stylophile A monumental cock-up in Potions leaves Harry and
Draco contending with more than mutual enmity, and a strong desire to utter
all manner of profanities. What could have been a cliché its done
beautifully in this story.
- Matinee
by Lady Vader. People do silly things when they're drunk,
usually no one is a round to record it, but this time... A funny story with
a great ending.
- Draco and the
Not-Potter by
Circe. Short, clever and
funny.
- The
Pendulum of Choice by Rushlight The future is not some place we
are going to, but one we are creating. Harry, from a defeated universe,
travels through parallel universes to find somewhere he can live again and
be of some use. This is not exclusively H/D, but a number of pairings as well
as none. The different realties Rushlight creates are very clever and
intriguing, the different Harrys all surprisingly similar in many respects.
- Icarus Rising
by Darla Darco is a Draco as Veela story, but it is so much more than
that, and so very well written and planned out. I recommend it highly.
- Three Little Pigs
by Nope. 1,000 word ficlet involving hangovers, snarkiness,
implied slash and an umbrella plus a surprise/shock . *g*
- A Moment in Time
by The Shadow Bandit. AU: During his seventh year, Harry
learns that his life can change forever in a single moment in time. I
found the premise of this story hard to swallow as I'm not fond of stories
that show Dumbledore and Harry's friends in such a negative light, but
as it continued I found myself absorbed almost against my will.
- The Lodger
by Mad Martha. Harry takes in a lodger. This delightful story
takes it's time and tells us so much about both Harry and Draco as it does.
Martha has a prequel to The Lodger along with three post
Lodger ficlets. All are very much worth a read. Check in her Master List of
Stories and scroll down to The Lodger Series. The stories are

as Starkiller A potion gone

as he tries to come to terms with what is happening to him are often
very funny. An intriguing
'what if' story with a great ending. Well worth a read
-
Mutual Interest by
Olivia Lupin. The war is over, it's
been over for exactly one year, and there is a special event at Hogwarts to
celebrate. Harry attends, and runs into an old adversary-turned-ally, Draco
Malfoy. There's Ron, Hermione, and Pansy. There's conversation and dessert.
And there is the acknowledgement of long-denied attraction and lots and lots
of possibilities. I enjoyed this even as I thought that Harry was just a
little naive, particularly in his conversation with Pansy.
Worth the
Wait 1
Part 2
is the companion piece in Draco's pov (first person) and is
perhaps even better than the first story.
- The Waters of
March by Duinn Fionn. Voldemort's final victim
resides with the other spell-damaged wizards in St. Mungo's Hospital. Harry
suffers survivor's guilt and finds an unusual beta. Cream-colored knee-high
leather boots make a brief appearance. This is beautiful, the slow
development of the relationship between Harry and Draco is realistic and
delightful to read. It also has some wonderful moments of humour and a
nicely depicted Ron.
-
Invisible to see by
Rebecca Lizard. Draco comes to terms
with some bad decisions, Harry faces some rather unpalatable facts and
Voldemort is up to his tricks. This is a well written and intriguing story
with a very clever use of Hogwarts itself.
- On the
last day of our world by Sansa1 During a detention,
Harry and Draco are locked in a strange room overnight. When they escape the
next morning, they are alone. Love, angst and adventure abound as they
struggle to survive in an empty world. AU, written pre-HBP. A
really excellent story that keeps you guessing all the way through. The
ending may require some tissues, but is beautiful.
- Welcome to the Real
World by IamtheLizardQueen. A Harry/Draco
romance, set post-Hogwart's in muggle London. Includes red mittens,
linoleum, witty retorts, angst, love, dance clubs, strange friends, cooking
shows, and coffee. This is a romance, but is beautifully written with a
great plot and a wonderful real beginning and superb descriptions of Draco
learning to cope in the muggle world.
-
Draco Malfoy and the Tome of Entrapment
by Saber Shadowcat.
Draco took a deep breath and let it out slowly. It sucked being in love.
This is a great preslash novel from Draco's pov with great portrayals of
Harry, Draco, Hermione, Ron, Pansy and, especially, Neville.
- The Art of
Seduction by Michi Chu. Frills, finances, and a French
maid costume. What could be better? Draco & Blaise make a bet that the
former can't seduce a "certain someone". This is extremely well written,
witty and fascinating. It's also a WIP and taking time to be updated.
-
Meaningful Conversation
by rurounihime. The best conversations happen at the oddest times. Harry Potter comes back
to London and finds Draco Malfoy there, ready to pick up where they left
off. Post-Hogwarts. A witty exploration of Harry and Draco as adults
managing to have sex, but not quite managing to ever talk about
anything really important.
- Secrets of the
Forbidden Broomcloset by Anthea Rose. Draco Malfoy is
beyond infuriated when a bored Daily Prophet pins him as gay, and he's
willing to do anything to prove his heterosexuality - even accept help from
an aloof but sympathizing Harry Potter. This is fun and very well
written. WIP
- Casualties of War
by miichan2. When the Second War begins, Remus Lupin and
Draco Malfoy are its first casualties. In which secrets are revealed,
decisions are made and friends avenged. Not an easy story to read, this
is dark, sad and angsty. but also very well written with a wonderful
description of the awakening friendship between Harry and Draco.
- The Warlock
by MysticShadow. Harry met the fury in the ice-blue eyes of the
Warlock with defiance. He was Draco's prisoner, but his slave he'd never be.
Yet Harry could not know how Draco ached to posses his body - or that the
world's fate will rest on the strength of their bond. I'm enjoying this,
very slow to be updated, AU WIP. Draco is perfectly depicted in his icy calm
and power, while Harry is beautifully written and while lacking Draco's
knowledge and influence, is certainly not powerless, nor quiet in his
defiance and anger.
- Marked
by S-Star. Draco wants everyone to keep off his property...
Short, not particularly sweet, but rather amusing and pretty clever. *g*
- The
Annointed by C Dumbledore. Voldemort appoints 12
students to aid in the planned siege on Hogwarts. Lucius is dead, Draco is
Lord Malfoy. A long intriguing read giving us a plausible reason for
Draco's change of allegiance and some nice interaction between the Golden
trio and Draco.
- Momenti Diversi
by Zarah. In which you'll find the Italian sun, some
sexual tension, a reluctant Harry and a persuasive Draco. A beautiful
story that really evokes the taste and smell of Italy.
- No Need to Talk by
furiosity. Sometimes a change of
perspective is all that is needed to change your mind. A very realistic
description of how and why Draco changed sides.
-
Black
Magic by Moonlight by Beren Harry Potter could
find trouble in paradise and when Draco sends him to St Louis for a holiday
it's not paradise and there's lots of trouble. With dark magic, vampires,
lycanthropes and more, who else could sort it out but Anita Blake? Beren
is an excellent author. This story is a crossover with Anita Blake, but you
don't need to know the universe at all. Her Harry and Draco are to die for,
particularly her strong, young, adult Harry, but Draco is beautifully realised
as well.
- Hall of
Mirrors by Ella Bane. In the summer before Harry
Potter's sixth year, he confronts a frightfully suspicious wizarding world,
where friends are strangers, mirrors hide secrets, and enemies become
lovers. This has an intriguing and original plot and a wonderful
description of the slowly developing relationship between Harry and Draco.
- Transformation by
Amalin. Harry/Draco, with a mild
shot of Harry/Tonks. In Harry's sixth year at Hogwarts, he must face the
consequences of the attack on the Department of Mysteries and the effects of
Voldemort's return. And in doing so, he finds that even your enemies can
teach you valuable lessons - about the world, and about yourself. A long
enjoyable read with a fascinating and believable relationship depicted
between Harry and Draco.
-
The
Flight of The Draco Malfoy by ZS. The seventh years
try their hands at Animagus Transfiguration. This is fun and gives a
plausible reason for Harry and Draco actually bonding.
-
The Summer After by
Silent Auror or

first story I read that was based on HBP/Book 6. It is a hurt/comfort
story, and is, as usual with this author's work, a very good read.
- The
Shadow of His Wings by Mirabella.
IIn which
Evil faces an insurrection. Good faces an unexpected betrayal, and Harry
means to find out which side Draco is on. A very interesting story with
a very well conceived plot and a beautifully depicted universe.
- Moment
by Moment by Thwax. Voldemort and his followers have
won the war. The Dark Lord rules Britain and those who oppose him are
scattered, some in exile in the USA, and others underground in their own
country. Harry Potter is one of those for whom America has become a home,
that is until his nemesis is given a promise by those who represent
authority for the exiled Britons. The promise will lead Harry into more than
he could ever have expected. This is long, clever, original, blood
thirsty, horrifying, frustrating and many more adjectives in between. Seen
from Harry's view point with a wonderfully depicted and realised romantic
relationship between Harry and Draco. Read it!
- All the
Proud Shall Be by Ladycat. After the events at the end
of Ootp, Harry takes stock and does some thinking. When he returns to
Hogwarts for his sixth year, he finds that someone else has had a similar
redefinition. A beautifully written, intelligent and intriguing story
with Harry and Draco so wonderfully depicted. Seen from Harry's pov. WIP
-
Beyond
the Lethe by ZS. For Harry, forgetting was easy... A very beautifully written story of Harry, the consequences of his battle
with Voldemort and the lengths that those who care about him will go to to
'fix him' and ensure that Voldemort is truly defeated.
- Black Tie
Formal, Someone Like You,
Untied
by SilentAuror are a series of short stories that depict the adult
Harry and Draco within a relationship. Draco is annoyed at Harry's tardiness
and inability to tie his black tie. Blaise, makes him rethink his attitude.
The middle story is a nice reflection on Harry and Draco from Seamus and
Blaise's view point.
- Genesis by
akahanna This year isn't going to be like
all the others. He just knows it. A Draco-centric reimagining of HBP
with mpreg that actually works!
- Scenes
from a memory by Cephy. Waking up in the hospital wing
is really nothing new for Harry. Except this time, he's missing four months
worth of memories, and things are a little bit weird... Original and
intriguing story.
-
It Started with a Spin by Maxine Chan
It started
with the spin of a bottle, and now Harry and Draco have gotten themselves so
far into their own game there's almost no way out again. Except to keep
playing. A highly enjoyable and original way of bringing Harry and Draco
together.
-
Second Chances by
kishijoten. For the first time in
over a decade, Harry Potter crosses paths with Draco Malfoy. Both have
changed a great deal, but what do those changes mean to them - and to each
other? A Post Hogwarts story that allows Harry and Draco to slowly deal
with their past history and learn to like and then love each other. However,
there are complications in their path towards love, Draco's children and his
father.
- Per Solum Lacuna:
By Words Alone by Wintermoon2 or
here A set of enchanted
journals bring solace to two very unlikely lost souls. Whoever said the art
of penmanship was lost? I consider this long, involved, intriguing and
beautiful story to be one of the classics of H/D fiction.

- Hogwarts Express by
Closet Skeleton. Now boarding the
Hogwarts Interdimensional Express. Please mind the gap. A fascinating
and occasionally bewildering story that starts of slowly and just about
spins out of control, but is worth reading.
- Intrepid
Teenage Hero by Jennavere. To save wizardkind from
falling into the Dark Lord's evil clutches, intrepid teenage hero Harry
Potter embarks on a dangerous quest: infiltrating Malfoy Manor and getting
information from Draco using highly unorthodox methods. This made me
giggle uncontrollably at times.
- Cure for the
Flu by Ivy Blossom. Draco's got the flu, and when
Harry and Draco duel some of his flu medication ends up in Harry's ear,
making him...you guessed it. Telepathic. Only, it turns out that Draco has
the world's most mundane thoughts. Will Harry survive the tedium? Can Snape
(or Hermione) cure them? Funny, clever and highly enjoyable. I loved the
ending.
-
Forty Days of Christmas by
hogwarts_daily. Forty one very
enjoyable linked stories about Harry and Draco's slowly developing
friendship and more, with a few kinks thrown in for good measure.
- Sweet by
lydiabennet. Draco is sent to meet Harry in
Hogsmeade for purposes unknown. Magic, quarrelling, seduction, and dead
geese ensue. This is highly enjoyable and I love her strong assertive
Harry.
- Sacrifices Arc
by Lightning on the Wave
or here.
Saving Connor begins a seven book AU
called the Sacrifices Arc of Harry Potter's school years where
Harry's twin Connor (bearing a heart-shaped scar) is acknowledged as the
Boy-Who-Lived. I'm came in half way through book three and was so intrigued
I quickly read the first two books. This is immensely well plotted and
written. It is worth reading the author's blurb on the whole
arc at her
authors page on ffnet or skyehawke. It also goes to show that good stuff can be found at
a ffnet! *g* The H/D begins in the later years and is very present in Book
7, but Harry and Draco are very good friends throughout.. The series
consists of Saving Conner
- Year1,
No Mouth But Some Serpent's
- Year 2,
Comes Out at Darkness Morn
- Year 3,
Freedom and Not Peace
- Year 4, The Wind that Shakes the
Sea and Stars - Year 5
A Song in Time of
Revolution - Year 6 and
I Am Also Thy Brother.
- Year 7. I can't emphasise how absolutely superb these books are and how
they get even better as time progresses. Yes, Harry is a very strong wizard,
but the emotional fall out of his upbringing along with the plotting of his
enemies, and those one would consider to be his friends, mean that nothing
is a walk over for him and he struggles to survive in the maelstrom around
him. Draco is beautifully conceived with much of the arrogance and conceit
of the original tempered by his real love for Harry and the lessons he
learns along the way. Each character in these books is well crafted and
interesting. She talks further about her stories here

The
Misadventure of Draco Malfoy Ferret by sabershadowkat.
Crackfic Snape turns Draco into a ferret for his own protection. He
would've been safer with the Dark Lord. I found this story highly
amusing, but with an undercurrent of angst and pain which made it rather
good. It is about Draco as a ferret, and he is beautifully written and well
characterised, but it is also about Harry as both very human and all round
hero good guy as seen through Draco's eyes. I enjoyed her Draco, but adored
her Harry.
-
Resolution by Frances Potter.
When you've spent six
years fighting evil, all you really want is a quiet time. But when your name
is Harry Potter the chances of that are very slim. A series of vignettes
chronicling Harry's final six months at Hogwarts. Exams, friends, lovers,
Quidditch, the war and Draco all conspire to make the year end seem a very
long way away This is something of a classic in H/D fiction. The
first chapter was published in Jan 02 the tenth in July 05 and it is,
frustratingly, still a WIP. This is a very good read, but the length of time
between chapters is immense so you've almost forgotten the story by the time
the next chapter comes along!

Finer than Spring by lashajayne.
Wherein Harry takes a
prisoner, enemies are more valuable than friends, and seduction is the
weapon that could win the war. and it's sequel
The Twilight Kingdom
The world didn't end, but sometimes, Harry
wished it had. An excellent if rather angsty story that is beautifully
written and very inventive.
