  • Thoughts on Kate McLean this is a long, thoughtful essay by Justacat about her love for the author Kate McLean's stories. Mind you,  I disagree with just  about everything she says as I thoroughly dislike what I see as Kate's 'mischaracterisation' of both Bodie and Doyle, but specifically Doyle who she depicts as an arrogant, disagreeable and dislikeable person, and that is something I so cannot agree with or accept and has no basis in canon whatsoever. Some would say that is because Doyle is usually seen from Bodie's inaccurate and misleading POV and after some reflection I guess I have to accept that Kate's Bodie is usually a very unreliable and often bitter narrator.  But then my response is that I have absolutely no desire to read about a Bodie who is so foreign to the man I see on screen and also that I have no patience whatsoever with unnecessary and never ending angst and misunderstanding when the Pros is all about two men and an organisation who survive, even thrive on the mayhem and madness that surrounds them. I'll shut up now. :-)

AU:

  • A Birdwatchers Guide to the Cornish Ghosts by Lizzie is a highly enjoyable AU. Bodie, a keen birdwatcher, has settled in Cornwall, but he's beginning to get lonely. The fascinating Ray Doyle enters his life and changes everything. A well written and beautifully descriptive story. The second part is here and apparently there are two more parts to look forward to.
  • ...And Memories Die by Ellis Ward is a sequel to Looking Glass World by Felicity M Parkinson (an interesting read, but is not essential for understanding this one). A Bodie and Doyle relationship tale with fascinating twists. It continues in And Memories Die Part 2
  • Arabian Nights (another one) by Kathy Keegan is an AU, a bit of fun and a good read.
  • Arabian Nights by Pamela Rose is a long sweeping AU. Very enjoyable in a grandiose type of way.
  • Contrary Virtue by Asymphototropic fascinating and beautifully written AU with a very vocal Bodie. *g*
  • Echo by Ellis Ward  is AU and SF, but deals almost entirely with the developing relationship between Bodie and Doyle. It's a good read.
  • Harlequin Airs by Ellis Ward is on the net now. I still think it's worth getting the zine because the illustrations by Suzan Lovett are a feast for the eyes. However, this is a fun read with a pretty implausible plot. More info under zines
  • Hunted by Devils by HG is now on line so run and read it! It's an AU about James Griffin (played by MS in Cassidy) and Kit Kilroy (I don't know where this comes from or if he's HG's invention). They are not Doyle and Bodie, but they have the same tension and chemistry between them that Bodie and Doyle have, and obviously they look like Bodie and Doyle :-), just older. I enjoyed it very much, but then I've never disliked anything that HG has written
  • Legacy of Temptation by Ellis Ward. An intriguing AU horror story with Bodie as a computer professional and Doyle as an author of some somewhat familiar titles. *g*  A good plot, clever use of suspense and a highly enjoyable developing relationship makes this an absorbing read.
  • Looking Glass World by Felicity M Parkinson is now on line. It's an interesting story, but its main interest for me is that it was the story that prompted Ellis Ward to write two fascinating sequels And Memories Die 1 and Part 2
  • Night moves by Courtney Grey is an interesting AU with Bodie in an interesting 'career'.
  • Professional Dreamer by Pamela Rose is now on the web, a superb and clever story, hurry and read.
  • Suitable Gravity by DVS Originally published in the zine LOVERS 5. A SF AU with enough similarities to the original to keep me intrigued. Seen from Doyle's pov and showing us a delightfully teasing and flirty Bodie.
  • The Captive Heart by Elessar, an enjoyable AU/fantasy with narry an elf in sight and with an interesting use of a number of CI5 characters in very alternative roles. I liked this because of the relationship that develops between Bodie and Doyle and the way the author manages to to remain pretty true to Doyle's CI5 character despite the fact that she keeps him mute for most of the story.
  • Wine Dark Nexus by Anne Carr, illustrated by Suzan Lovett is a historical AU with Bodie as an Egyptian prince and Doyle as a noble Atlantean both sold to Leap the Bull at Knossos. The story is intriguing, the characterisation well done and the unfolding love story is delightful.
  • The Art of Love by Alexandra is an AU in that Doyle is an artist and Bodie meets up with him in his professional capacity.
  • The Blue Figurine by Courtney Grey is bleak and full of angst, but very clever.
  • The Hunting by Jane. Is a long sweeping epic that involves elves! It's worth a read just to get a feel for how she writes, particularly if you are considering purchasing the Flesh and Steel Trilogy. I quite enjoyed it, but don't think I'd want to read beyond Book One. Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
  • Time Out: Past Tense  by Pamela Rose is a interesting time travel adventure which, while holding my attention, never really convinced me.
  • Victorian Kitchen Gardener  by Lizzie is an enjoyable, albeit somewhat angsty, AU
  • Waiting Room by Lizzie a very different and intriguing AU.
  • Witchery: A Tale of the Carbon Wars by Verlaine Originally written for the DIALJ "Discovered in Thirty Years' Time" challenge, March 2008. A fascinating SF tale with Bodie, Doyle and Cowley still very much in character, and with a fascinating OC.

Action and Adventure:

  • The zine All the Queen's Men by Victoria Racklyft is now available on the web. I can't in all honesty say that the story thrilled me, the premise is interesting, but could have been better executed - but you must look at Suzan Lovett's illustrations
  • British Summertime Blues by ailcia 'He'd always assumed he'd give his right ball to bugger off to the south of France or something for his summer hols, somewhere ever sunny and hot under the sun, at that...  But it just wasn't really done. And, in all honesty, he had a real fondness for the crapness of braving the English sea-side.' Delightful, evocative prose.
  • Half Lives by queenbamfie now Goodnight Lady is wonderful having a great plot, subtle humour alongside the drama and angst, great dialogue and excellent characterisation.
  • Of Sunshine and Cemeteries by Slantedlight Fascinating B/D relationship story in its early days interwoven with snippets of information about both the war and Bodie's parents. We discover the information at the same time as Doyle does and as it is all seen from Doyle's pov we wonder along with him just what is going on with Bodie.
  • Once in a good long while by laceymcbain (written for me she gloats) is a great exploration of partnerships, with great dialogue, action, adventure and plot.
  • Stormbringers by Akin is a high octave action and adventure story, with great dialogue and banter. You're never too sure quite what's going on, although subtle and not so subtle clues kept being dropped, and while we don't have a resolution of sorts, we do get some kind of completion and understanding, if that's the word, with Bodie and Doyle.
  • The Assassin's Daughter by Lacey McBain is a long, highly enjoyable dialogue heavy story that charts the changing relationship between Bodie and Doyle prior to during and after an intense and dangerous 'Simple escort to Oxford'. I loved the brief interlude in the cottage and I very much took to Ginny who grew as a character as the story progressed.

Angst:

  • Aftermath by Gwyneth Rhys a long story in four parts. The story starts with the death of Doyle's wife, and is about Doyle's relationship with both people he loves, Bodie and Gil, and Bodie's relationship with Doyle and Gil. A good story, and Gil is presented as a very interesting, strong and likable woman
  • Dancing in the Rain by Nell Howell had me in tears, and caught me out,
  • Saints and Miracles by Jack Rueben Darcy. Angsty, hard hitting, well written, long, engaging and beautifully characterised.
  • The Blue Figurine by Courtney Grey is bleak and full of angst, but very clever.

B/D as seen through another's eyes:

  • A kind of praise by JoJo You come across them happily sinning under cover of a sticky summer night. An intriguing look at the guys from someone else's eyes. The descriptions of the pair of them later on in the story are to die for!
  • A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words by J M Sherwood is a delightful little ghost story with a difference.
  • Baiting the Trap by DVS was recommended on All_Fandom_Recs. I've read it, enjoyed and can't believe I've not recc'd it here. It's a look at the guys from Cowley's, rather twisted, perspective.
  • Benevolence  by Ariadne features Cowley eavesdropping, somewhat incredulously, on a conversation between Bodie and Doyle.
  • new Betty Knows by jojosimco La Betty prowls the corridors of CI5 and discovers all sorts of intriguing things ... Really interesting and original look at CI5, and of course Bodie and Doyle.
  • Cause for Concern by Android is a clever look at Bodie and Doyle's partnership through the eyes of Dr Kate Ross and Cowley.  It starts with her psychological evaluation of the pair of them and her recommendations to Cowley for their continued well being both as individuals and as partners. Cowley attempts to 'help' the direction in which he would like them to travel, and at first it looks as his and Dr Ross' machinations might work, but Bodie and Doyle have always been known to be both bloody minded and contradictory, so... A fun piece of writing.
  • Festival of Light by Dorinda One minute until the bomb went off Intense, nicely written short story with the lads as viewed by an injured and presumed unconscious Cowley.
  • Handy Pandy out goes the Rat by Rimy is another agent's take on the Bodie/Doyle partnership and how his desire initially for one and then both men eventually changes the dynamics of it. What the title means only Rimy knows. I thought it was a line from a Nursery Rhyme, but can only find Handy Andy, Sugary candy, Which will you have? Which is in itself is a type of reflection on the story. Or it could be partly from the old children's programme 'Andy Pandy'. I always wondered what Andy Pandy and Looby Lou got up to. :-)
  • Of Moggies and Streamers by  P R Zed The lads, particularly Doyle, as viewed by a teenager. Fun. *g*
  • Old Man's Fantasy by DVS. Worth reading
  • Stop Breathing by Creed Cascade  starts with a somewhat disturbing conversation between Cowley and Kate Ross about our favourite pair. Their subsequent behaviour seems to substantiate Dr Ross concerns, but this is Bodie and Doyle we're talking about here!  An intriguing read, even if I don't buy Dr Ross' actions.
  • The Keeper of Secrets by Jackie Thomas A low key, but delightful view of Bodie and Doyle's relationship.
  • The Stripper  by Rob is Cowley observing Bodie and Doyle, and I like it.

Bodie's mercenary past emphasised:

  • A Whisper of a Kill by Ann Barrister ( Lois Welling) has a great Suzan Lovett picture as a front cover. Ann uses Bodie's time as a mercenary in Africa to bring him to the attention of Cowley, CI5 and Doyle. Cowley decides to bring him in to CI5, but most of the agents, Doyle included, are suspicious of his motives. How Bodie finally earns Cowley and Doyle's trust and eventually Doyle's friendship and more makes for interesting reading, and this has one of the most original beginnings that I can remember, and a very different way of introducing us to Bodie and Doyle while still remaining firmly in the CI5 universe. Her Cowley is superbly written, and I like the background she gives to both Bodie and Doyle. Apparently this is on the CD under the name Lois Welling and was printed as a zine by Manacles Press with the Suzan Lovett painting round as the cover. Now that would be worth having! Thanks to my ProsLit sibs for that piece of information
  • Forget that I Remember and Dream that I Forget  by Pamela Rose is painful yet joyful and beautifully written.
  • Long Shadows  by NN West is a story which uses Bodie's past as a mercenary, but within the context of a CI5 operation, so Doyle is Bodie's partner. Doyle is injured, and they are captured by the group of mercenaries they've been trying to evade, but who fortunately know, and respect, Bodie. The leader wants Doyle, and Bodie needs Ray to follow his lead in everything for both of them to get out alive and in one piece. Nicely done pre slash. O Yardley wrote the sequel Among the Lilies.
  • The Blue Figurine by Courtney Grey is bleak and full of angst, but very clever.

Challenge fics:

  • Conversation and Astoundingly by Mazzysue are ABC Challenges They both adhere to the challenge, each sentence beginning with the next letter of the alphabet, and both manage to be short, but enjoyable Bodie and Doyle vignettes.
  • Out with the Old by myrebelcat Discovered in the Brandy Butter Challenge My prompt was roast duck. There are no roast ducks, real or metaphorical, in this fic. Oh well, it's still seasonal and there's beer - enjoy! And very enjoyable it is too, as well as very firmly a Gen piece. :-)
  • Four Things Doyle Knew and One He Didn't by Magenta Blue shows us the growth and maturation of Ray into the Doyle we know and love as well as depicting the developing relationship between Doyle and Bodie. Most enjoyable.
  • Four Things That Never Happened to Ray Doyle - And One That Did by Aeyre This is the first of this style of short story I've seen for this fandom, and it's good.
  • Night of the Living Lemmings by Asymphototropic  for the Jubilee challenge with the Prompt: Series of beacon bonfires. Highly enjoyable and rather clever.
  • On such a night by Slantedlight. Written for 'A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words' challenge,  this is absolutely delightful.
  • Picture This by Heliophile Part 2 written for the Discovered in a Sketch Book Challenge. An lovely introspective piece written by a new, and very welcome, writer to the fandom. Following Doyle's injury and subsequent hospitalisation, Bodie discovers things about Doyle that makes him rethink their relationship.
  • Pwnco by slantedlight (Then comes a battle of wits (known as pwnco) A story written for the Discovered in a Brandy Butter challenge on LJ (check out the other stories, they're all worth looking over). I like slantedlight's style of writing and I love her characterisation of the two men. This is a strange mystery story, a haunted house and a romance all rolled in one and I just love the way she uses obscure folk lore such as the Mari Lwyd (in Welsh, Y Fari Lwyd a very strange custom used to mark the passing of the darkest days of midwinter) to wrap her story around.

Character Study:

  • Caravans by Mandragora is an introspective piece seen totally from Doyle's pov and takes place in one day mostly while travelling in a car to talk with an informant. The disquiet that Doyle is feeling about  Bodie's and his partnership builds slowly, occasionally broken by peaceful interludes and then building up again until Doyle, or Bodie, bursts forth. The climax is satisfying and the way that Doyle's pov, and only his pov is given throughout provides  for some nice twist and turns
  • Gargoyles by Ariadne Written for the 'National Curriculum' challenge started by  [info]empty_mirrors. The subject is 'History' and the prompt was 'Westminster Abbey'. A fascinating story from Doyle's pov, beautifully using the backdrop of the Abbey to tell us something about Ray Doyle
  • Mere Anarchy by rebelcat Rebelcat has taken a highly emotive subject that is so often handled badly, rape (not depicted, this is in a sense a recovery story), and written an excellent, coherent story. Go here to read why it was recc'd and what other people thought about it.
  • Werewolves of London by Rimy. A well written, interesting, multilayered story that gains from careful reading.

Christmas focused:

  • No Candle by Ariadne  is moody, reflective and ultimately reassuring, a bit like Doyle I suppose.
  • Not a very silent silent night by Alexandra is is a delightful tale of mutual seduction over the RT's while 'house sitting' on Christmas eve.
  • Of Trees and Needles by Magenta Blue. A delightful and well written portrayal of Christmas with the boys, and CI5's finest of course!
  • So Here It Is, Merry Christmas by Ariadne  is a fun Christmas romp.
  • Ringing in the Changes by PFL. A long, absorbing, occasionally angsty and well characterised look at nine years of Christmases with the boys.
  • The End is Where We Start by PFL On sick leave after an op gone bad, Doyle elects to spend Christmas in the arms of his loving family. Rest and recuperation are all very well in their way, but what Doyle really wants for Christmas is peace. Peace despite his deep feelings for Bodie, who cannot truly return them, because he refuses to be gay. A very enjoyable story that moves from London and the complications and complexities for working for Cowley and CI5 and finishes in Derby with a intense scene between Bodie and Doyle as they sort out just what they do mean to each other.

Crossover:

  • Magical Christmas by Nell Howell - A cross with The Sentinel and a mild parody of the Gentle On My Mind series of zine novels about a brain-damaged Doyle - made me snort with laughter, possibly because it highlighted all the things I dislike about the GOMM scenario. Quite honestly, all Nell's stories are worth reading.
  • People Bending Broken Rules by Deborah Hicks is a Pros/MfU crossover. I have a fondness for Man from Uncle so enjoyed the MfU agents contribution to the story. This is written seven months after Doyle's near death and focuses on the changes in the partnership brought on by Doyle's shooting. While Bodie and Doyle deal with their feelings and worries during a rather violent and risky joint operation with the MfU agents, their experience is mirrored by Illya and Napoleon as they reflect on a similar incidence that broke up their partnership for nearly fifteen years. Nicely written mixing violence and angst in almost equal measure.  Incident in a stairwell. and The Waiting Room Affair are the prequels.
  • Voids by Eleanor B. I don't know the Bill or Frank Burnside, but I found this reflection on what was and what could have been fascinating. It's a Burnside/Doyle pairing with strong hints of future Bodie and Doyle as Burnside reflects on their time together, but ultimately it's a tale of regret and loss. Loss of youth, loss of a mentor, loss of a lover to another man and loss of a career. Very interesting.

Death fic:

Drama:

  • Aftermath by Gwyneth Rhys a long story in four parts. The story starts with the death of Doyle's wife, and is about Doyle's relationship with both people he loves, Bodie and Gil, and Bodie's relationship with Doyle and Gil. A good story, and Gil is presented as a very interesting, strong and likable woman
  • Marooned by Anne Carr. Bodie and Doyle are deliberately marooned on an island, yet set up as if they are on holiday. This provides us with a slow, romantic building towards a relationship which is suddenly stopped by their rescue and subsequent debriefing. Doyle feels completely shut out from Bodie, and the latter part of the story is his fight to claim his lover back.
  • Of Tethered Goats and Tigers by Tarot Originally published as a zine novel by an unknown press, c. 1981-1985; also on the paper circuit A wonderful read with Doyle being set up by Cowley to appear as his lover cum successor to entrap a Russian spy. The rest of CI5, including Bodie, know nothing of the plot and it is Bodie's reaction when he eventually discovers what is 'going on' that makes for such an interesting and fascinating story.
  • Saints and Miracles by Jack Rueben Darcy. Angsty, hard hitting, well written, long, engaging and beautifully characterised.
  • Summers End by Alexandra is a long story with fascinating OC's and a good plot.
  • Wonderful Tonight  by Sebastian is excellent.

Episode based stories:

  • Broken Cover by Angelfish Archivist. Another good one by Angelfish Archivist. A post Slush Fund story. Tasty and intriguing.
  • Crazy Maniac by Jackie Thomas or here  covers the episodes The Purging of CI5, Close Quarters and Look After Annie and provides lovely dialogue and a story that captures the stress and strain of the job while beautifully showing the somewhat tumultuous relationship between the guys.
  • Global Pros Watch codas by PFL PFL writes codas to each episode after the global Pros Watch that ran for some time on Sundays at the The Safehouse. They are well worth a read.
  • Hyperion to a Satyr  by Sebastian, an interesting take on the Bodie/Doyle relationship based around the episode Involvement. In fact check out everything that Sebastian writes because she is a very good writer She is also archived on the Oblique site  or on her own website Zeropanic
  • Last Time Around by Lily K an epilogue to The Ojuka Situation is an amusing mainly dialogue piece with Bodie at his smooth and charming best
  • Never the Words they Say by Slantedlight post Operation Suzie. Slantedlight is an excellent writer and her characterisation of both men is superb. This wonderful story not only develops a satisfying relationship between Bodie and Doyle, but introduces us to some delightfully eccentric characters that enrich the telling of the story
  • One Can Only See by Lacey McBain. (gen) A missing scene of sorts for Discovered in a Graveyard. This is a nicely written and thoughtful piece from Doyle's perspective as he contemplates his life, CI5 and in particular his friendship with Bodie as he views life from 'above' as his actual body lies in a hospital bed.
  • Rules by PPL, a tag and beyond to the episode Wild Justice. Almost terse certainly somewhat angsty it feels very much in character.
  • Semantics by Loz Set after Rogue. Different things get to different people. A beautifully written, contemplative story
  • With a Dark Lantern by callisto A rather fascinating post episode, Discovered in a Graveyard, fic with a great ending. Not slash, but as the author says - there's a vibe, there's always a vibe *g*

First Time emphasis:

  • Chances by Angelfish Archivist. This was recommended on the ProLit list, so I followed it up and heartily endorse the recommendation. It's an excellent read and an interesting take on the relationship between Bodie and Doyle
  • Games by Alexandra starts with Doyle intending to tease Bodie, but ending up caught in his own trap
  • Holding back the Flood by Lacey McBain. There's only been one thing Doyle's ever needed, and after a failed mission, he decides to give in. A powerful, short story that really grabs you by the throat.
  • Light of Day by  P R Zed is  harsh, painful, difficult, nerve wracking and ultimately a great and rewarding read.
  • Mended Hearts by Veronica is kind of romantic.
  • Not Just at Christmas or here by Ariadne is almost a PWP dialogue piece that I found rather sexy, mainly I think because the sex wasn't 'fantastic' and the characterisation seemed spot on.
  • Scoring A Try by ET. It starts with a down and dirty rugby match where Doyle realises that Bodie has set him up. It degenerates into bawdy tomfoolery, and then sexual teasing between Doyle and Bodie that continues when they get back to Doyle's flat. The last part is Bodie's erotic, but gentle seduction of Doyle, and it is a very enjoyable, and often amusing, read.
  • Secrets by DVS. Doyle gets an invite to a wedding, and takes Bodie, but he's not been the same since the invitation arrived and Bodie is determined to find out why. A nicely intriguing first time story.jjj
  • Tea for two by Alexandra is a long, interesting story where Bodie finally faces the fact that he desires and loves Doyle and tells him. Surprised, Doyle initially just wants their friendship back on an even level, but he too realises that what he feels for Bodie is far more than simple friendship. The back ground story with it's strange characters is a fascinating back plot to their developing relationship.
  • The First Time by Shay Sheridan. His first time was nearly his last. Ray Doyle's musings on what had been and what is. Short and punchy.
  • The Flat by DVS I read this some time ago, was reminded of it very recently via a rec on a Pros list. It's an interesting piece of writing, sparse and almost bared to the bones, but it works extremely well and manages to convey a great deal with the spaces in between the prose.
  • The Return by Ellis Ward take us on a twisting and devious path of double and triple think. The denouement is clever and enjoyable.
  • Trying to Understand by Derry. Bodie and Doyle are on the trail of a killer but will their tangled feelings for each other harm the case? An interesting story, angsty and painful at times with a rather ambiguous ending, but nice looks into both Doyle and Bodie's hopes and fears.

Friendship (gen):

  • Dead Bluff by Linda S. Maclaren and Gina Martin (gen). This is a violent and vicious story that is well plotted and well paced, and the Bodie and Doyle friendship and partnership is very well depicted
  • Living with consequences by Ariadne (gen) is, as the title suggests, about living with the consequences of action or inaction. It is also a piece about friendship, comradeship and respect.
  • Masterplan by Dinah. This is gen. and about Matt, Bodie's illegitimate son, who only finds out about his father after his death. Doyle features quite prominently, but this is Matt's story of discovery. It is well written and inventive. I loved seeing Doyle through the eyes of a twenty four year old and I enjoyed hearing the real love and affection that Doyle had for Bodie. To be honest, I wanted far more Doyle and his memories of Bodie and a lot less Matt, but then I would have been reading a very different story. :-)
  • Of Foxes and Feelings by Ariadne is gen, but is very strong on the deep friendship between the guys. It's a delightful little story written after Ann Holly departs from Doyle's life for good.
  • Subject closed by Ariadne, gen, consists of us listening in to Doyle's internal musings about relationships, and is followed by a very in character in car banter between him and Bodie. Very interesting.
  • With a Dark Lantern by callisto A rather fascinating post episode, Discovered in a Graveyard, fic with a great ending. Not slash, but as the author says - there's a vibe, there's always a vibe *g*

Holiday fic:

  • A Nice Day to be on the Canal by Slantedlight. Another short, enjoyable story by Slantedlight. The title is delightfully ironic.
  • Four Days in August (or  Snapshots of Two Gay Rats on Honeymoon) by snarkyllama The title itself was glorious, while the story was fun and highly enjoyable.
  • Private Lives by Alexandra occurs after Doyle's shooting with Bodie and Doyle sent off for a months leave and ordered to write down their thoughts and feelings to aid the process of recovery.
  • Second Glance by queenbamfie posting as prospicture After Doyle takes a bullet in the arm, rendering half of the partnership useless, Bodie applies for leave. The result? Two tickets for a week's holiday in Malta. Sun, sea, history, pleasant natives... and the answer to a question that has been plaguing one half of the duo for months. After all, what use is a double room except to work out... issues? This ongoing series is a combination of prose and pictures, is intended to be updated regularly and is well worth a read.

Horror:

  • In  the Widening Gyre by Verlaine Written for Halloween. Seen from Cowley's pov and is clever, beautifully written, full of horror and yet still manages to be about the boys being together - through thick and thin.
  • Soul survivor by Lizzie is an interesting and spooky horror story.

Humour:

  • A Tale of Tiddles a round robin written for Discovered In A Livejournal. Very funny and very well done.
  • Bear with Me by Doylebabe. A delightfully funny story, and its sequel Grin and Bear It is just as funny.
  • Fly on the Wall by Lezlie Conch amused me the first time I read the double and triple thinking that Bodie indulges in. I also enjoyed the rest of the agents attempts to 'seduce' Doyle.
  • Its not only a beautiful picture...  by Lizzie a totally unbelievable premise, but highly funny and an ending that made me giggle.
  • Missing details by The Hag is a short, but fun piece about the boys and their toys. *g*
  • Permanently attached at the hip by M. Fae Glasgow. A funny story with wonderful dialogue and a great twist at the end.
  • Try Pleasure Bent by Sebastian if you want some humour and a very sexy and relaxed Ray Doyle as seen from Bodie's POV
  • The Art of the AU by Ariadne is a delightfully funny little story or here
  • The Teeth of the Problem by shayheyred is a fun piece of dialogue written by someone newly 'pimped' into the fandom. Not bad for a fandom that's over 30 years old is it!

Hurt/Comfort:

  • Catch a Fallen Star by Rosemary Callahan. This zine, with a beautiful original colour illustration on the cover by Suzan Lovett, is now available on line. After Doyle is captured, Bodie refuses to believe that he is dead and leaves CI5 to hunt for him. This is a well crafted story that slowly uncovers both the strengths and weaknesses of both men and the way that they rely very strongly on each other.
  • Dancing in the Rain by Nell Howell had me in tears, and caught me out,
  • Mere Anarchy by rebelcat Rebelcat has taken a highly emotive subject that is so often handled badly, rape (not depicted, this is in a sense a recovery story), and written an excellent, coherent story. Go here to read why it was recc'd and what other people thought about it.
  • Phoenix Rising by P R Zed is angsty, hard hitting and a damn good read.
  • Rough Ride by Caroline Dare puts Bodie in a very difficult situation. Doyle's cover has been blown, and the leader of the bikers, where Bodie is undercover as a mechanic, has taken a very strong fancy to one Ray Doyle and wants to have him before they get rid of him - permanently. How Bodie saves, yet doesn't save, Doyle from a 'fate worse than death' and finally manages to escape with him makes for a fascinating and tense story. How Bodie and Doyle deal with the consequences of Bodie's actions is also very well done although the ending gets a little sugary sweet.
  • Voice-over by Elizabeth OShea was strongly recommended by Justacat on crack_van LJ community. I agree with her, this is a beautifully done story all from Doyle's pov because he is talking to Bodie, who lies unconscious in a hospital bed.

Older Bodie and Doyle:

  • Cards by UKJess and it's sequels cards on the table- part one and part two are an interesting, if not somewhat painful view, of the lads, older and one hopes wiser post CI5. They're all from Bodie's pov and portray a lovely story of strong love and friendship.
  • Careful cultivation by hisluvpet I really enjoyed this 'older Bodie and Doyle' in their aga filled domestic bliss and their shared CI5 responsibility.
  • Doubt Truth To Be a Liar by Lily K First published in the zine Secret Agent Men 11, by Requiem Publications It's hard to review this, or to decide upon the theme, without spoiling it, but to suffice it to say that I found this rather intriguing.
  • Leftovers by HG based on the prompt bubble and squeak. This is a delightful older Pros mainly dialogue piece.
  • The Story of my Life by PJ is a very interesting look at a much older Bodie and Doyle from an outsiders pov. Interesting and inevitably sad.
  • Who Caught and Sang the Sun? by slantedlight A delightful older Bodie and Doyle running CI5 together, with complications and drama of course. :-)

One or both leave CI5:

  • A Special Working of Gravity by Jackie Thomas I like Jackie Thomas's writing. It's quite sparse in a way yet conveys a great deal of emotion in short sentences and paragraphs. This is Bodie and Doyle outside of the CI5 safety net fighting for a future and fighting with and for each other.
  • Forget that I Remember and Dream that I Forget  by Pamela Rose is painful yet joyful and beautifully written.
  • Puppets on a String by Tessa Rae is long, convoluted and maintained my interest all the way though. Her Cowley really is a crafty, conniving bastard, something Bodie respects and appreciates, but Doyle resents. The story also develops their relationship in a delightful way.
  • Runner Home by Anne Carr. Bodie runs from his love for Doyle, but Doyle, both furious and hurt chases after him learning a thing or two about himself and his feelings for Bodie in the process.
  • Trial Run by Ellis Ward is a long story that starts with Doyle's sense of betrayal as he discovers that Bodie has resigned. He finds out why and begins to realise just what he will do to keep Bodie part of his life. Despite finding Doyle's 'conversion' a little hard to believe, I very much enjoyed the rest of this slow, gentle story. A couple of missing words and some irritating spelling mistake are distracting at times, but it is worth the effort.
  • Where the worms are is another Pamela Rose story. I find her an excellent author. Cowley is dead, CI5 is no more. Bodie insists it's murder, but Doyle can't accept that and they go there separate ways. Doyle find that he can't get a job, anywhere, then an attempt is made on his life and suddenly Bodie's accusations aren't looking so stupid... A good, involving read.

PWP/Snapshot:

  • A Lack of Time by Gwendolen. A brief snapshot of the lads between jobs and the frustrations of a life 'on call' to duty.
  • Not Cool by Shay Sheridan. Doyle's hot and Bodie's cool...maybe.
  • Object of desire by Courtney Grey is a fascinating exploration of Bodie and Doyle's slowly developing relationship.
  • Taking it neat by Sihaya Black a short, fun PWP.
  • The Natural Order of Things by rebelcat is an amusing 'bed time  discussion' by the guys while out on a job
  • The rules according to Doyle by Rimy Doyle finally agrees to sleep with Bodie on certain conditions, but what are they?
  • Through a Glass Darkly by ET and Rob is a great 'reflective' story.
  • Velvet and Silk by P R Zed. How can you dress like that and not feel queer?  A thoroughly enjoyable vignette.

Pre CI5:

  • Learning Trust is a great pre CI5 meet up of DC Doyle and SAS man Bodie by Russet McMllan. Other stories are at here or on the Circuit Archive
  • On Guard by Gloria Lancaster I rather like this possible first meeting scenario.

 Zine stories now on line:

  • Adagio Series by Sebastian is a novel in four parts, Adagio, Catharsis, and Homecoming. Adagio is perhaps the lightest and funniest, the first time, while Catharsis is angsty and sad although I was highly amused by the shenanigans in the swimming pool changing rooms. Homecoming has a hefty piece of CI5 action in it plus a meeting with Doyle's family. Overall the three section work well and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
  • Hunted by Devils by HG is an AU about James Griffin (played by MS in Cassidy) and Kit Kilroy (I don't know where this comes from or if he's HG's invention). They are not Doyle and Bodie, but they have the same tension and chemistry between them that Bodie and Doyle have, and obviously they look like Bodie and Doyle :-), just older. I enjoyed it very much, but then I've never disliked anything that HG has written.
  • Jigsaw Puzzle by HG is of her usual excellent standard of writing. It is certainly angsty, and has Bodie and Doyle fighting and hurting each other before true understanding dawns.
  • Rediscovered in a Graveyard by HG A mix between present day CI5 Bodie and Doyle, and  their 1790's incarnation. HG uses a similar device as in Rainbow Chasers to stop Doyle actually 'seeing' Bodie, in the 1780/90's,and of course complications and misunderstanding ensure. The story is quite fascinating and well written.
  • Strange Days Indeed by HG has Bodie and Doyle four happy years into their partnership at CI5 when Bodie's past hits them both and causes them both considerable hurt. Following this, tensions and a shift in the relationship between them create a rift, but fortunately it gets resolved very nicely. A good read.
