Rambling; to talk or write without any
clear thread.
Occasionally I get very heated about something and feel a need to pontificate
or rant. Other times I just want to ramble on about something I like or enjoy. Whether
anything will be worth reading is a moot point, but I'll enjoy myself. If
anything among these 'essays' (I think that is far too grand a word) strikes a
chord, do get in contact.

The Americanisation of
Harry Potter - or here on
LJ with comments
posted to HP_essays
and
engendering a lot of comment. Not all were in agreement by all means, but
most were very pleasant, although the damn thing got hijacked by rants about
spellings, something I'd never even mentioned. I bailed out after one person
was incredibly rude - she said she felt sorry for me if I was so 'precious'
that I wouldn't read HP fiction with American spellings! While another
replied to my attempt at humour by telling me that I shouldn't ask for
people's opinions if I wasn't prepared to accept them! I couldn't think of a
thing to say that wouldn't sound defensive and rude so... This is obviously
a hot topic in the fandom, and not helped by the Americanised versions of
the books, although I do not believe that the essential spirit of the book
i.e. it's Britishness has been changed at all. But there you go. -
